Pop-out Die Cut Cards with much Dimension

Pop-out Die Cut Cards with much Dimension

Hi crafty friends! Today, I’m sharing 2 new cards I recently made with a technique I learned from Jennifer McGuire’s video! She is great for creating interesting card design techniques and her card inspired me to make mine. If you want to see her video, click here! I highly recommend watching it especially if you haven’t tried this design before!

I have been shopping my craft stash for quite some time and not buying much because our monies have and are going towards our new home. It’s a bittersweet thing because I love to shop for crafty goodies but we gotta focus on priorities so to make my cards, I searched for a die that I could turn into a pop-out feature. I chose Spellbinders “Birdhouses through the Seasons” collection that I’ve used a ton of times!

I decided to use the Fall birdhouse because it’s large enough but not too large for an A2 card. I die cut 2 of them on Lawn Fawn‘s woodgrain cardstock and did some ink blending to distress them with my 2 favorite brown inks (Distress Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain). I die cut a few florals to add on top and to make the birdhouse have some strength, I die cut it 3 times for both cards.

For my backgrounds, I opted for Darice’s “Leafy Tree” embossing folder, but I also wanted some color so after I embossed the tree on white cardstock, I fussy cut it to create a mask. Then, I ink blended over my card panel with Pinkfresh Studio’s “Sky Blue” ink. I then added my pop-out mechanism Jennifer taught in her video and then glued my birdhouses on the mechanism so now when the card stands up, the birdhouses pop out! I love it! 😀

For more embellishing, I added a few birds from Spellbinders “Sweet Birds on a Branch” die set. These cards were so easy and quick to make!

For my sentiment, I used Spellbinders “Tweet Sentiments” stamp set. I stamped it on white cardstock and trimmed it down to place on the birdhouses. Really love how these turned out and so cute when standing up. They also fit perfectly flat inside the envelope.
