June Monthly Challenge: Ink Blending & Stenciling

June Monthly Challenge: Ink Blending & Stenciling

Hi Crafty friends! Today, I’m sharing 4 cards using a 2-layered stencil, I love using stencils! There’s so many techniques you can do with them, they’re inexpensive and easy to color. I’m not a colorist nor an artist and I struggle sometimes but with stencils I feel like a rockstar!

And this design is definitely great for mass producing cards, another thing I like to do. I can’t seem to make just 1 card all the time, I love making the same design but using different colors and placements for my embellishments which you’ll see in this set.

For the backgrounds, I used Pinkfresh Studio’s “Diamond Plaid” stencil set. There’s 2 stencils to the set. Check out my other cards made with these stencils here. I chose Simon’s Pawsitively Saturated inks for my ink blending today.

I wanted to use some of my die cut florals so I chose to use an Oval nested die set. I picked the largest and the 3rd from the largest to make an oval border. I matched the borders to the colors of my backgrounds.

The other fun part about making these cards was arranging all the florals. For these, I picked Spellbinders “Sprigs and Twigs” and “Perfect Layered Blooms”. I absolutely love die cutting these florals and leaves and I went to town using different colored cardstock papers.

Lastly was adding my sentiments and again I turned to my go-to Pinkfresh Studio foiled sentiments, can’t say it enough how much I love this pack!

For this card, I used Simon’s Cherry and Watermelon + Simon’s Schoolhouse Red cardstock.

I used Simon’s “Limelicious” and “Celery”. The cardstock is Neenah 65 lb. that I had in my stash. There’s no florals on this card, I decided to go with just greenery but it needed something else, so I used butterflies from Crafter’s Companion “Dancing Butterflies” die set.

For this card, I went with Simon’s “Surf” and “Seafoam” inks. The cardstock is Neenah 65 lb.

I used Simon’s “Lemonade” and “Sunbeam” inks. Again the cardstock is Neenah 65 lb. cardstock.

For all my ink blending, I went with the lightest color on the first stencil, then the next darker color for the 2nd stencil. So, this is how the order went for each card (lightest to darkest):

  • Yellow: Lemonade→Sunbeam
  • Teal/Blue: Seafoam→Surf
  • Green: Celery→Limelicious
  • Red: Watermelon→Cherry

I love how this set of cards turned out, so much fun making them!
