Stencils, Stamping and Gel Pressing

Stencils, Stamping and Gel Pressing

I try to steal time during the days (even when I’m working my day job) to do a little crafting! That might be doing small tasks like coloring stamped critters or creating backgrounds for cards and saving them in my art box. I love my playing with my gel press and inks. For these 4 cards, I used Distress Oxide colors for my backgrounds and then I added stenciling and stamping.

I’m not a mixed media artist, but I love MM and when I look at these cards, it kinda reminds of it. At least, I can say they are very artsy! Some of the Oxide colors I used was Cracked Pistachio, Wilted Violet, Squeezed Lemonade, Peacock Feathers and some others.

It is so much fun inking with a gel press and you can end up with a bunch of backgrounds quickly. I started out with a full cardstock sheet 8-1/2 x 11 which I ended up trimming down to 4 A2 card panels. Then I trimmed them down to 4″ x 5-1/2″.

The stencils are ones I have in my stash. I recommend using shapes because they really blend well with inks and I tried to add them to the edges so as to have that bleeding effect on the edges.

Each card has a different sentiment, all of which have encouraging messages. I’ve really been into making inspirational encouragement cards lately.

I think these last 2 cards are my favorites! The purple ink coloring really plays nice with the blues and greens. And with gel press and ink pads, when you overlap the colors, you get new colors as in this final card. So fun and so quick! If you’ve haven’t used a gel press before, I highly recommend it for your crafting. Visit cards I’ve made here and here!
