Big, Bold & Beautiful Backgrounds

Big, Bold & Beautiful Backgrounds

Hey Crafty friends! I’m back with another blog post! I guess it was “Jennifer Time” when I made these 4 cards as well as the 2 in my previous post LOL! She published a tribute video to Yana Smakula and the way Yana loves to color when she makes cards. I love Yana and believe me I’m praying for her and all of Ukraine right now!

Yana loves big, bold and dramatic designs and she’s a wizard with the Copic markers. Jennifer, is the technique queen of cardmaking so she came up with a fun, fast and easy way to get a similar look to how Yana colors. I wanted to try it out! I’m sorta in between both ladies, I love to color but I’m new at it so I’m still a learner!

I’ve embedded Jennifer’s video below to make it fast and easy to watch should you want to try out her technique. If for some reason, the video doesn’t play, watch it on YT here.

For my cards today, I started out by stamping Simon Says Stamp’s “Thankful Flowers” stamp set with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

I followed Jennifer’s steps and so for 2 of my cards I ink blended the background and the other 2 I used primarily Copic markers.

I don’t have a black Copic marker (yet!) as Jennifer used for her cards, so I got the 2 darkest colors in my collection B18 and BG09 to color around my flower clusters.

The inks I used were Distress Inks in Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed, Squeezed Lemonade, Pine Needles, Rustic Wilderness and Pinkfresh Studio “Espresso” ink for the centers.

Other Copic markers I used were: yellows (Y38, Y19, Y18); greens (G94 and G99)

For my sentiments, I chose Honey Bee Stamps “Blessed” word die and the secondary sentiment also comes from that set. I stamped that onto white cardstock. The outline was die cut on silver metallic paper and the letters on black cardstock from my stash.

I’m hoping to get a black Copic marker soon so I can retry this technique cause I’d love to know what I can come up with!
